Backend Engineer
We are one of the fastest-growing podcast & audiobook platforms in Europe and we are now looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Community team. Join us on the quest to shape the way people learn, discover, and unwind through audio experiences and thereby enrich lives through listening.
This is the role
As a member of our Community team, you will work on enhancing user engagement through community-focused features such as comments, reactions, polls and posting in the app. Your responsibilities will include supporting and developing features that align with our Community strategy, ensuring system stability and optimal performance. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business objectives and propose innovative solutions.
Your primary tasks will involve building and maintaining high-quality community features, driving team deliverables, and ensuring robust code quality to create a seamless user experience.
Your main responsibilities in this role:
- Work on high-quality feature implementation in Kotlin, build prototypes, resolve issues, and profile and analyze bottlenecks
- Design robust APIs to support mobile and desktop clients
- Manage and optimize scalable distributed systems in the cloud
- Develop automated tests to ensure business needs are met, and allow for regression testing

Experience we’re looking for:
- You have an experience in Kotlin / Java or any other JVM-language
- You have good experience using Spring Boot and experience in developing REST APIs
- You have experience in using PostgreSQL
- You have experience in using PubSub, Kafka or similar messaging solutions
- You have some experience/are willing to work with containers and utilize tools like Kubernetes
- You have some experience/are willing to work with Async programming
- You have good communication skills in English as this is our company language across our markets
- Having knowledge or experience with GraphQL is a benefit
- Having experience in community features: high load comments, social feed or algorithms would be a benefit
Naturally, being passionate and knowledgeable about podcasts, audio content, media, and entertainment is a big plus!
